DO, BE, COMMUNICATE, OPS, THERE IS AN ACADEMY TO LEARN!

The OPS! Cambio di Rotta Association, starts with a new and ambitious three-year project, the Academy of Life, where autonomy and the ability to communicate and face the small / big problems of everyday life will be the crucial nodes for disabled people and their families.

The association puts in place the "Academy of life": a three-year training and educational course, in which members will experience, participate in outings, workshops and initiatives and learn to communicate through the theater.

Several concrete aspects and educational areas on which the children will focus: orientation, communication and road behavior, use of services and means of transport, personal care, domestic life, use of money, interactions and relationships, know-how, know-how, to be. It will be a three-year period of study and practice, a testing ground for experimenting and experimenting, always in protected contexts and accompanied by qualified personnel.

For the work of educators to be effective, parents need to share it; it is essential to build a family-educator alliance that gives continuity to the association's proposal in everyday life.

For this reason, in parallel with the training course of the children, training sessions dedicated to parents, volunteers and educators will be held on a quarterly basis.

The groups, composed of 3/4 members, will be supported by an educator, who will take care of the "tailor-made" projects and the relationship with the families, and by a volunteer / trainee.

As real tutors, the members of the team will accompany children with disabilities in achieving autonomy, an important goal, fundamental for the social and work integration of the person, which cannot ignore the stimulation of cognitive and relational skills.

The Academy's educational style is based on several assumptions. First a relationship based on "truth"; second the involvement of the children in the choices and management of the activities, third the consideration of their being great and the explicit recognition of this role in order to reinforce the acquisition of further autonomy.

At the end of the second year, after receiving the diploma, the students will enter the Job master (which will last another year): meetings with professionals and entrepreneurs, who will talk about the world of work and all its facets, visits to companies and, where possible, internship to put into practice what has been learned. The project is designed for people with intellectual disabilities who have completed their training and who have not yet entered the world of work.

There will be nothing standardized, the fundamental characteristics of the project are the personalization and the clear definition of objectives for each participant.
